Your characters can become ill whenever you choose!

Just make sure that if you want to get sick that some illnesses have long term effects and all of them have specific requirements for being cured. Other characters can help cure the sick character.

Infrigis

Level of Severity: Tier 1

Susceptible Species: Draken, Nyulop

Susceptible Ages: All Ages, Children are much more susceptible however

Signs and Symptoms

Infrigis sickness is entirely harmless, being much more annoying than actually painful in any way. The annoyance starts with a lot of sneezing, making most want to avoid you as it is highly contagious. Excessive sneezing is the easiest symptom to pick out.

Having a lot of tissues nearby is a must, as grayish mucus will begin to drip from the nose and you will need to blow your nose often to get it out. It is thought the cause of the coloring of the mucus is due to inhaling smoke or dust. Because of all the fires made to keep warm during winter, this sickness can be caught very easily if you have a fireplace in your home.

Many sufferers don't even bother going to the doctor, instead preferring to wait it out and stay in bed until they feel better. Being bedridden isn't all that bad when you have someone there to bring you meals and take care of you until the sickness runs its course naturally, about a week after it is first contracted.

Progression

First, you may find yourself with some simple sniffles. Your nose may itch, and some sneezing might occur. Sufferers will start to feel weak, and will most likely want to stay in bed by the first 24 hours of catching this sickness. Soon they will be fully bedridden, wracked by sneezing and snotty noses, runny eyes, and will be feeling too weak to even raise a glass to their mouth to drink. Gray mucus may drip from the nose, mouth, and sometimes even eyes if it is bad enough. Dark bags will appear under the eyes and will get darker as the sickness progresses. The easiest sign to look for if you're getting better is to look if the eye bags are starting to disappear.

Cure

“A stew made with Zingy berries will put the pep back in your step, but since they don't grow all year round and winter is when this illness strikes most often, it isn't always possible to get your hands on them. It's very rare you'll be able to find them this time of year… maybe you'll be lucky and find some vines that still have some berries on them?”

“Another remedy is some warm foods and lots of rest, and though it takes about a week longer to heal up this way, it's the only way to get better when Zingy berries are out of season. But you won't need my help for that.”

“However if the stew is eaten, you can feel better in as little as 24 hours! If you can find me some Zingy berries, I can make the soup for you and get you feeling better.”

Tollywobbles
Level of Severity: Tier 2
Susceptible Species: Draken, Nyulop
Susceptible Ages: Teenagers, Adults

Signs and Symptoms

Tollywobbles may sound like a fun time but...it really isn't. Suffers from this affliction experience extreme levels of tension in their limbs. This tension causes the entire extremity to seize up so tightly that you can't bend your fingers or wiggle your toes. In fact, many have compared Tollywobbles to suddenly having plastic or solid limb that can't be properly moved. It can become intensely painful or entirely numb.

This illness tends to afflict teenagers and young adults during growth stages. It is believed to be caused by the sudden presence of mana flowing freely through the body and the influx of Amelio Phenomena which may occur. All these drastic changes can induce Tollywobbles, especially if the sufferer is prone to poor eating and sleeping habits. The condition is exacerbated by preexisting anxiety and stress.

If left untreated, Tollywobbles can overtake all of the sufferer's limbs, rendering them immobile and defenseless. However, at any stage, Tollywobbles is curable.

Progression

Tollywobbles is a slow-acting illness. It feeds off the body's preexisting fatigue and stress and slowly starts by causing tingling sensations in either the fingers and or toes. This is often ignored despite being a common early sign of the illness. If left untreated the afflicted limbs will grow heavier and colder until they suddenly tense up and are unable to be moved.

Cure

"Y-...You let your Tollywobbles get this bad...?"

"Well...I suppose there's nothing to be done about that now."

"I can cure it. I just need you to find me a Prism Vine and some Orange Mood Rocks to complete the remedy."

Incumare Syndrome
Level of Severity: Tier 1
Susceptible Species: Draken, Nyulop
Susceptible Ages: All Ages

Signs and Symptoms
Individuals suffering from Incumare Syndrome will fall into a deep sleep from which they seem unable to wake. They will toss and turn restlessly, make sounds of discomfort and pain, and may even lash out and yell while asleep. Sufferers are known to sleep talk while afflicted, often times calling out for help as though they are being attacked by some unknown entity, leading many to believe that the sufferer is being attacked by some malevolent entity.

Sufferers may sweat profusely, tremble, fidget and even groan. Their faces may contort into expressions of anger or fear, but their eyes will remain tightly closed. It is possible to see their eyes darting around beneath their eyelids, indicating their brains are active and they will seem as though they are having a frightful dream.

It becomes impossible to wake a sufferer from their dreams should Incumare Syndrome take full affect. No matter the attempts made, the sufferer will not awaken from their dreams. They should be taken to see a professional right away.

Progression

Individuals suffering from Incumare Syndrome do not immediately fall into an unending sleep. They show symptoms of what has been called "the oppression stage," during which they become fatigued and sluggish. Heavy bags may appear under their eyes and they will slowly lose their appetite. They will begin sleeping more and more, with each nap taking longer and longer. Once they begin sleeping more hours of the day than they are awake they will be close to succumbing to the never ending sleep. Once they fall asleep and the Incumare Syndrome takes on fully they will start to suffer what has been recounted as being "the worst dreams imaginable." Despite being described as horrendous and horrific...sufferers can never recall the details of their dreams...or nightmares.

Cure

"Incumare Syndrome is a very serious illness...but I can make the cure for it."

"I have essentially all the necessary ingredients...I just need you to gather two things for me."

"If you can locate some Twin Moon Pods and some Tree Sap for me I can make the medicine."

Brin Burn
Level of Severity: Tier 1
Susceptible Species: Draken
Susceptible Ages: All ages

Signs and Symptoms

  • Excessive scratching or extreme itchiness around the body
    • Scales pushed upward, no longer flush with the rest of the Draken's scales
    • Discoloration of scales around the afflicted areas along with a terrible burning sensation when touched
    • Little brownish bugs moving across the skin, or hiding underneath the scales
Progression

Brin Burn is an infection that can be caused when a Draken is inflicted with Brin Louses, tiny bugs that hide under a draken’s scales that suck their blood. Brin Louses can hide under a Draken’s scales quite easily, and remain undetected until they have drunken their fill and balloon up. When this happens, they no longer fit under the scale properly, and push up the scales they were hiding underneath. These bugs can be picked off the scale once they balloon up, and removed before they reproduce and multiply. However, if left unattended, even if the knits are gone, the rash left behind can spread and worsen over time. The afflicted Draken may experience a burning sensation if they try to touch it, making the whole ordeal quite painful.

Cure

“Well! first thing’s first we gotta get all those tiny little louses off of your scales!”

“That rash still needs taking care of, but if you bring me a couple of Fancy Collar Shrooms and a Heart’s Desire I can make a paste to bring down the swelling.”

Magic Mites
Level of Severity: Tier 1-3 depending on progression
Susceptible Species: Any magic manipulating species
Susceptible Ages: Teens, Adults

Signs and Symptoms
Magic Mites, though invisible to the naked eye, have many obvious tells that can help one determine they may have the start of an infestation before it's too late. The first sign that magic mites may be afflicting an individual is that they fatigue quickly whilst performing or studying magic.
The most obvious sign of a magic mite is a mysterious small bump or impurity that can range from the size of a grain of sand to a grain of rice (depending on how mature the mite is) which can be felt but not seen with the naked eye on a creature's main magic-sensitive organ; like the third eye gem on a Draken, which should otherwise be perfectly smooth and free from any impurities.
If the infestation has progressed greatly, the magic-sensitive organ of the afflicted host will feel as if it is covered in many small and unevenly sized scales, and may begin to very vaguely tingle or itch.

Those more adept at magic or studying higher tiers of magic are more susceptible to Magic Mites, as the mites are attracted to those who radiate and act as a conduit to stronger magical energies, as that provides them with a more steady and plentiful food supply.
Though frequent hygienic upkeep is a good way to prevent an infestation from occurring, it is no way a guaranteed way to ward off the mites.

Progression

At earlier stages, Magic Mites are very difficult to detect, but are significantly easier to cure as they can just be picked off the part of the body they're attached to with relative ease, though afterwards one should perform a thorough check to ensure that no remaining Magic Mites remain.
When a magic mite initially attaches to a host, it checks it for long-term food viability, as they feed off the mana the creature produces and uses. If it finds its host a suitable one, it sends off a signal that attracts others to its position, and over time they'll all crowd over top of each other, forming the tough, scaly layer indicative of a severe infestation. After this has begun to occur, they can no longer simply be picked off as they secret a goo that acts like a glue, cementing them to each other and securing them firmly over top of the magic sensory organ.

If left untreated, Magic Mites can cause incredibly discomfort to the afflicted individual. While a nuisance at first, it can quickly devolve into a much more serious issue if left untreated. With large or otherwise significant portions of one's mana pool unknowingly drained one is more likely to push themselves too hard and can experience moderate to severe mana burn, which can have much more serious side effects alongside the effects of Magic Mites. If the infestation reaches a critical point, the afflicted may find themselves unable to use magic whatsoever, as any mana generated is immediately sucked away by their greedy parasites.

Cure

"Oh- Oh my word! This is certainly a case of Magic Mites if I've ever seen one."

"The cure is known to me, fear not. It may take some effort, but I can clear this infestation."

"Bring me some Moontallow and a couple of Purple Mood Rocks and we'll be able to make a cure."

"... and until you do, don't even think about using magic until this is all cleared up."

Aphonic Disease

Level of Severity: Tier 2
Susceptible Species: Draken and Nyulop
Susceptible Ages: Children

Signs and Symptoms

Aphonic Disease, or “Silence Sickness” as it is commonly referred to, is a common illness among young children caused by a bacteria that can be picked up from almost anywhere. The first sign that a child has Aphonic Disease is a bad cough that worsens over time. This illness affects the throat, and can cause the area to become sore and itchy. Other signs to watch out for are a loss of appetite, difficulty breathing or excessive wheezing, and reddening around the throat.

Probably, the easiest tell tale sign that a Draken or Nyulop is afflicted with Aphonic Disease is the fact that they lose their voice a few days after contracting the disease, and can only emit squeaks and small raspy sounds until they are cured.

Progression

Aphonic Disease is unpleasant for any kid to undergo, and if left untreated, can cause some serious problems. While the initial symptoms may reflect a simple bad cough and sore throat, They worsen with time, become increasingly painful, and can open the door for other illnesses and infections. Not to mention the loss of their voice can make it difficult for a young Draken or Nyulop to communicate other symptoms they may be feeling.

It is heavily advised that any kid suspected of having Aphonic Disease is taken to the doctors right away, as it is highly contagious among children.

Cure

"Oh dear...Aphonic Disease is never fun to have...though it’s a good thing you came to me when you did! We don’t want it getting any worse...”

“Fortunately, it can be cured with a little Prism Leaf Tea! (Unfortunately, that is just as appealing as it sounds...), Find me a few Prism vine leaves and I can whip up a batch in no time!”

“It will taste a little funny, but a few sips each day and you’ll be right as rain in no time!”

Ingredients needed for cure:
In order to cure the afflicted character you will need to draw:

1) Draw your character retrieving the colorful leaves off of a Prism Vine

Mana Burn

Level of Severity: Tier 3 — Tier 5
Susceptible Species: All Magic Manipulating Species
Susceptible Ages: Usually most common in ages where magic first becomes available

Signs and Symptoms

Light Mana Burn is characterized by a heavy fatigue a sufferer may experience for a few days straight. They may only want to nap, or are hard to wake up and do not eat or drink much. Light Mana Burn is not terribly severe, though sensitive souls may be more susceptible to headaches. The more mana that is drained from someone, the worse migraines they will experience. Migraines are often accompanied by stomach aches, and the sufferer may also experience vomiting and a high fever.

Severe Mana Burn tends to happen more instantaneously, and depending on how dry someone's magic reserves are they may pass out or fall into a comatose state near instantly. The sufferer may stay comatose for a few weeks. In the event that they still suffer severe mana burn upon waking up - or if they never passed out in the first place - the sufferer will experience frequent dizziness and may have trouble getting to their feet. They may experience soreness all over, all paired with the same symptoms as light mana burn.

Progression

Light Mana Burn has a more notable progression than Severe Mana Burn which happens more instantly. After casting a spell, if the sufferer feels tired this may be a sign of light mana burn. If you notice a sufferer sleeping more than usual after doing one of the following you may want to get them to a doctor:

  • Casting a large spell for the first time
    • Casting more than one spell in quick succession
    • Learning more than one spell at a time - this could easily overwhelm anyone into using more energy than they should

If you notice that the sufferer takes a long time to recover, feels significantly sluggish after casting just one simple spell or cannot process mana well enough to cast anything, take them to a doctor. They may be suffering from Chronic Mana Burn. Chronic Mana Burn is generally something that a sufferer is born with and has to live with. Chronic Mana Burn may leave a sufferer unable to cast more than one spell within a long stretch of time or unable to cast at all.

Severe Mana Burn takes effect more immediately and is easy to spot. A caster who overexerts themselves to such an extreme extent will usually pass out immediately and may not wake up for a long time, or they may be difficult to wake up at all. Generally it is a good idea to take anyone who has passed out to a doctor immediately - but seek medical attention immediately if this happens.

Long Term Effects

Anyone who has received Severe Mana Burn multiple times will slowly destroy their magic sensing and processing organ. This means for Draken that they will sustain tier 5 damage to their Third Eye Gem - and Nyulop will sustain tier 5 damage to their whiskers. Their magic casting ability will be marred for the rest of their life.

Anyone suffering from Mana Burn for a prolonged period of time may have damaged their magic sensing and processing organ and/or have received Chronic Mana Burn which is something they'll have to live with for the rest of their life.

Severe Mana Burn may very well severely damage the sufferer's ability to cast magic. See the information on Tier 5 damaged Third Eye Gems and Tier 5 damaged Whiskers for in-depth explanations.

Cure
There is currently no known cure. Anyone suffering from Mana Burn should be sure to get a lot of rest and wait for it to pass before using magic again. It is important to keep your body from becoming fatigued!
